Depression: Let's Talk

New Content ItemDepression is kind of terrible condition and illness which occurs when people are in a low mood, and our thoughts, behavior and feelings could be affected easily by it. In China, there are plenty of people in any ages are suffering from depression recent years. By in line with the activities of World Health Day 2017 which initiated by World Health Organization (WHO), China also held series of events to expand the awareness of this disease to public and help us how to better deal with our depressed mood.

BioMed Central is pleased to take this opportunity to share our recent publications in this research area from China and other Asia countries, in order to be of any assistance to the researchers who works in this field.

Accumulating evidence has indicated that S100B may be involved in the pathophysiology of depression. No published study has examined the effect of the antidepressant drug venlafaxine on S100B in animal models of depression. This study investigated S100B expression in the hippocampus and assessed the effect of venlafaxine on S100B mRNA level and protein expression in rats exposed to chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS).

Followings are the aims this campaign hope to achieve:

  • the general public is better informed about depression, its causes and possible consequences, including suicide, and what help is or can be available for prevention and treatment;
  • people with depression seek help; and
  • family, friends and colleagues of people living with depression are able to provide support.
